Holiday Foods to Keep Away
Holiday dinners are full of foods that are dangerous for pets. Onions and garlic in stuffing, xylitol in sugar-free desserts, chocolate in treats, alcohol in drinks, grapes and raisins in fruit salads, and cooked bones that splinter can all land your pet in the emergency vet.
Toxic Holiday Plants
Many popular holiday decorations are toxic to pets. Poinsettias cause mild irritation, but mistletoe and holly are significantly more dangerous. Lilies are extremely toxic to cats — even the pollen can cause kidney failure.
Other Holiday Hazards
Tinsel, ribbon, and wrapping paper can cause intestinal blockages. Candles pose burn and fire risks. Batteries from new toys are corrosive if chewed. Potpourri and scented oils can be toxic, especially to cats.
